Villa Clarín is not simply a neighborhood or an informal settlement; it is a profound reflection of the social, cultural and economic contradictions that many vulnerable communities in Colombia experience. Through the analysis of different studies and interventions, it is possible to trace a history of uprooting, struggle, welfare and hope, which allows us to understand why development programs, however well-intentioned they may be, do not always achieve the expected results. This community was born in the pain of displacement, when many families fled armed violence at the beginning of the 21st century. Arriving in a place without services or minimum living conditions, the first inhabitants demonstrated a great capacity for resilience.
